Remove with String or Dental Floss
Many people suffer from skin tags and they can appear in places that are quite embarrassing such as your face, neck or under your armpits; they can even appear in your groin area. Whilst most people will live with skin tags without a problem, for some they are a constant annoyance. Children do not normally suffer from skin tags, you will generally get them when you reach adulthood and it you’re over 50 years of age they are more likely to appear.
The medical profession believes that people who are overweight, pregnant or have diabetes are more prone to skin tags and this bracket of people are the most common type to seek out skin tags removal. The reason why this bracket of people are more prone to skin tags is because of hormonal changes within the body or if you’re overweight skin rubbing against skin.
Do They Need to be removed?
The one thing to remember is that skin tags are in no way dangerous to your health, they will NEVER turn cancerous and as said, many people live with them without a problem. There are several reasons why someone would want a skin tags removal, the main one being that they have them in places that are visible to others and they feel self-conscious about them. If you have skin tags in places that no-one can see and they are not bothering you, it’s best to leave them alone.
Using a Piece of String
If you would prefer not to see a doctor and would rather carry out skin tags removal at home you can use a very simple method using a piece of string or cotton; some people even use dental floss. When you tie a piece of string around the bottom of the skin tag, the blood supply will be cut-off and the skin tag will eventually die and fall away from the skin. Whilst this is not an instant method of removing skin tags, it is relatively painless and does not come with any side-effects. Do bear in mind that if you intend to use this method you MUST make sure you tie the string as close to the top of the tag as possible and that it is as tight as possible. The tighter, the better, this will ensure you cut-off the blood supply to the skin tag. You may experience some discomfort when doing this but it will be worth it in the end.
Is Home Removal a Good Idea?
In short, the answer to this question is yes, for a couple of reasons. One, you can take your time when removing your skin tags at home and two, you can do it at a time that suits you, there will be no need to work around a doctor’s appointment.
